State of the Blog

I've had a lot going on lately, and there were several posts that I wanted to make and simply didn't get a chance to.

I got laid off in January and picked up a new job in February, which obviously gave me quite a bit of preoccupation with the situation. Plus, I've been trying to wrap my head around the team and be the best employee I can with the new gig. In short, I simply haven't had the same amount of spare time that I had before.

I didn't post a Book Report in March, but not because I didn't read anything. Originally, I was going to write about "The Universal Christ" by Richard Rohr, but I didn't finish it. One of those traditional print books, after I got another job, I suddenly found myself with less free time to read. Plus, I started listening to the audiobook for Iron Flame, a sequel to Fourth Wing. Also, if I get back around to actually reading rather than listening, "Common Sense on Mutual Funds" by John C. Bogle has been my latest foray into investment strategy. Beyond that, the latest Dresden Files book "Twelve Months" came out in January of this year and my hold at the library is available. Suffice it to say, I'm still consuming a lot of books and my monthly drive down to Charleston is absolutely going to help me chip away at the backlog. Another print book that I had planned for April was "The Official Stardew Valley Cookbook," but again, print books take me a whole lot longer to get around to.

On the Thirsty Thursday Eve front, I had posts scheduled out through March, but I don't have anything for April and beyond. Ideally, April should be about the Mint Julep due to the Kentucky Derby, but we'll see if I get back around to that. Also, my mint plant died, so we're having to grow more. I'd like to think I'll get back around to it before the end of April, but if I don't, you know why. After that, I'm partially of the mind to just abandon the cocktail year and go back to random liquors so I can talk about the Kirkland Signature Tequila Anejo.

Outside of Book Report and Thirsty Thursday, I played several games that I meant to write reviews for. Golden Sun and its sequel, I meant to finish a post for. Pokemon Fire Red, in the wake of that coming out on Nintendo Switch. I'm working on the original Resident Evil now. Hopefully I'll get back around to them soon, but I'm bouncing between playing games and reading books without much time to write any sort of meta analysis about them.

Eventually, I'll find a good balance of work and recreation time, and I'm sure I'll get back to writing more regular posts. Until then, I didn't want to give the impression that I had forgotten about Words on Wednesday. This is still a passion of mine, just one I have less time available for lately.

I'm hoping for a huge influx of posts soon. Hopefully I won't have to mention getting laid off again, but y'all know I can't keep my mouth shut if it's something that needs to be improved. Still, this doesn't feel like System Logistics or Michelin; I think I could stay here for a while; just a matter of finding that equilibrium.

For those of y'all still coming back, I appreciate you reading. This has been an ongoing initiative that will inevitably have some ups and downs, but I'm still returning when I can to continue posting. Here's hoping we have plenty of posts left.
